Since the inception of our annual industry report a decade ago, the growth in family camping has continued to provide generational opportunities for the future. KOA’s Families and Kids edition of the 2024 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report dives deeper into the more than 118 million families who camped between 2020 and 2023.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง More than 3/4 of family campers say that camping improves their relationships.
๐จ๐ฝโ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ง๐ฝโ๐ง๐ฝ New camping families are more diverse; 38% are white compared to 62% of experienced family campers.
๐ด๐ผ 37% of grandparents take their grandkids on at least one camping trip without the children’s parents.
โบ Family campers tend to be more avid, with 34% taking three or more trips in 2023 (compared to 23% of non-family campers).
๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Families who camp at campgrounds with a lot of services and amenities are some of the most satisfied, with 80% saying their experience was highly favorable.
